The place for fresh
organic products in 2008

Who are the Four Friends?
Four Friend’s CSA is a cooperative project of the farmers at Urban
Edge Farm in Cranston and Pie Garden of Johnston & Exeter, Rhode
Island. Having worked along side each other for two seasons, we are happy
to offer you a cooperative CSA for 2008. We are a diverse group of
farmers with talents in pie making, flower growing, chicken raising, bicycle
mechanics, and much more, but the focus of the CSA will be on the products we
grow on the farm. We are Liz, Christina, Chang, Mis, Michele and Katie.
What is a CSA?
As defined by the USDA:
In basic terms, CSA consists of a community of
individuals who pledge support to a farm operation so that the farmland
becomes, either legally or spiritually, the community’s farm, with the growers
and consumers providing mutual support and sharing the risks and benefits of
food production. Members or shareholders of the farm or garden pledge in
advance to cover the anticipated costs of the farm operation and farmer’s
salary. In return, they receive shares in the farm’s bounty throughout the
growing season, as well as satisfaction gained from reconnecting to the land.
Members also share in risks, including poor harvest due to unfavorable weather
or pests.
When you join our CSA you
become a stakeholder in our farms for a season. Your
membership supports our farms operations, and entitles you to a share of
delicious produce, herbs, flowers and/or eggs from our fields. Every
week, we’ll prepare a smattering of the finest seasonal organic produce
you’ll find anywhere, sustainably grown in Cranston and Exeter, RI.
How does it work?
For twenty weeks, beginning June 17 through October
28, simply come to the farm every Tuesday from 4-7pm, 35 Pippin Orchard Road,
Cranston, RI to pick up your share(s). If you happen to be
away for a week, please give us advanced notice and we will bring your
share to the Amos House in South Providence, or you can invite a friend or
neighbor to pick up your share that week.
Each week you’ll receive a healthy
portion of what the farms produce: approximately half a bushel of
veggies. Due to the nature of our growing season, shares will be lighter
in the spring and heavier in later months. We estimate we’ll have 8-10
different items each week, with plenty of old standbys and some delectable
rarities.

Flower Share…
We also offer a Flower
share for 12 weeks beginning June 24 though September 9th for $145. You
will receive a beautiful, medium sized, mixed bouquet of locally grown,
chemical free flowers.
The subscription service is
also available for delivery* of a bouquet each week for 12 weeks for

Every bouquet arrives in a vase so the person does not need to be home; a
protected place out of the sun and rain is preferred for the drop off. It
makes a great birthday gift for your mom or sweetheart. (*delivery areas
retricted). Please contact Christina at 20001@cox.net

Egg Share…
New for 2008, we
are pleased to offer an Egg share. You can sign up for the
full 20 weeks for $90 or receive a dozen every other week (10 weeks) for
$45.
The chickens are raised at
the farm by Michele Kozloski of Zephyr Farm. They are in a moveable coop
and have all the fresh air, sun, and grass that they desire. The chickens
are a mix of Rhode Island Reds and rare colorful breeds. The eggs come in
shades of brown, white, and even green! These are the freshest, tastiest
eggs around.

We also write a weekly
newsletter, The Bean Pole, which includes farm updates, practical,
yummy recipes and tidbits about the environment and sustainability.
We hope you’re as excited as
we are to take to the fields, and so we hope that you will make time to
volunteer with us. The best way to know what is happening on the farm is
to work a day on it. Our work day is generally on Sundays, from noon to 3
pm. If you have a skill or resource you’d like to share, let us
know. Be prepared to get dirty!
New for 2008, we would like to offer delivery to your office. It
would require a minimum of 10 members to sign up and there would be an
additional delivery charge. Please contact Christina if you would like to
explore this option.
